The upcoming NY Cannabis Insider industry insight meetup is a networking event happening August 15 from 6-9 p.m. in Midtown East Manhattan and will be held at Madam Mikette’s, 987 2nd Ave., New York, NY 10022. Details and tickets available here.

For the panel discussion portion of the meetup, speakers will focus on Native American nations in the cannabis community. Attendees will hear from tribal members and attorneys about the state’s past and present relationship with Native American nations, up to and including the recent legislative bill that aims to allow state-licensed cultivators and processors to sell cannabis to tribally licensed retailers.

Matthew Leonardo, the bill’s author, will discuss its genesis and where it stands today in the NYS legislative process. Thunder Anderson of the Akwesasne will detail his recent encounter with law enforcement and the raid on his dispensary, Famous A’s. His attorney, Joseph Bondy, will talk about the current legal battles taking place over tribal cannabis and what’s to be expected in the near future. Lance White of the Akwesasne will explain tribal licensing, cannabis culture among tribes and his foray into legal sales as the founder and president of Turtle Island Corporation.
