How to get a N.J. permit to manufacture edibles at Oct. 12 business conference

Cooking with cannabis is like being a chef who finds five new spices, says Rob Mejia, New Jersey educator and author of The Essential Cannabis Book: A Field Guide for the Curious, which features instructions on how to cook with weed. “When you match the right terpenes with the right dishes, it’s like magic.”

Mejia will provide demonstration on how to cook with the the plant during the NJ Cannabis Insider fall business conference on Oct. 12 at the DoubleTree Hotel Newark Airpot. (Tickets are limited.)

“Infusing food with cannabis let’s you control dosing, flavors, and the overall edibles experience,” said Mejia, who also founded the education company Our Community Harvest and is an instructor at Stockton University. “I like to focus on the craft side of the cannabis edibles market by offering education in how to create infused butters and oils. These are the building blocks of your unique products.”

Prior to Mejia’s 20-minute cooking class, Tara Misu Sargente, founder of Blazin’ Bakery and Green Alchemy, one of the state’s leading cannabis manufactures, will provide an overview on New Jersey’s requirements to get licensed to produce sanctioned edible products, such as gummies and chocolates. The state recently approved new rules to expand the types of edibles that can be sold in New Jersey, such as beverages, chocolates, baked goods and butters.

Sargente and Mejia will be among 25 other speakers scheduled to share actionable information cannabis businesses — whether they’re about to apply or about to open or expand — can use immediately.

A special speed-networking session, presented by Tenax Strategies, is designed to connect with you with the right people to help your business grow and thrive.

Doors open at 9 a.m. with cannabis trailblazer Wanda James’s keynote address opening the all-day event at 10 a.m. The conference ends at 5 p.m. Attendees can join an official after party later that night minutes away in Downtown Newark. Tickets ($295) arelimited for the conference. A select number of discounted tickets were made available for social equity applicants. Click here for more details and to purchase tickets.
