What is your position and what do you/your company do in the cannabis space?

I am the CEO of Trends Dispensaries, we are a New York State-licensed cannabis retail brand. We sell cannabis, clothing and experiences with our unique speakeasy style event space.

How long have you worked in the cannabis space?

I am a legacy person who’s been in the cannabis space for over two decades. Happy to now be one of the first 150 people to be licensed by NYS.

What did you do before you were involved in the cannabis industry?

I’ve done it all, hustled all my life. I’ve had many jobs but never a career until I found a career in fitness. Since then I’ve dedicated my life to helping others improve their lives through health and wellness.

What led you to the cannabis industry?

Cannabis for me was therapy. I used it to numb the pain from dealing with the hardships of a father on hard drugs while simultaneously losing my mom to breast cancer. I’ve sold cannabis amongst other things to survive for years, which landed me in jail numerous times. I’ve since changed my life but now having a legal license to sell cannabis is one of the most amazing things I could ever imagine.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to get into the NY weed industry?

I would advise people to only walk this path if they have a passion for the plant and industry. To make sure they have a strong team and lots of support to help them throughout the process. It’s not an easy road, so they will need to learn how to roll with the punches, adapt and adjust quickly.

What do you think the NY cannabis ecosystem will look like in five years?

I think it will be great with many more stores opening, offering great competition in addition to awesome collaborations. In five years, New York will be the biggest cannabis market in the world.

Do you use cannabis? If so, what’s your favorite method and why?

For the past 25 years I’ve been a flower person, nowadays I’m working to live a cleaner and healthier lifestyle so I’m doing more edibles and tinctures.
