One could be forgiven for thinking Labour is more than a little reticent when it comes to embracing change, but change is coming, and the implications are going to be huge.

At Donald Trump’s inauguration we were treated to a line up of the tech bros,  Zuckerberg, Musk and Bezos. Between them their wealth is equivalent to half the population of America, it’s an obscene amount, but such is their appetite for money, what they already have isn’t enough.

Since Trump’s Election win in November the tech bros wealth has increased by over $200 billion. Capitalism has put wealth in the hands of just a very few people.

The demise of thousands of high paid jobs
AI is going to see the demise of thousands of high paid jobs as CEOs seek higher and higher returns.

AI isn’t restricted to 9-5, it operates 24/7, doesn’t require lunch breaks, maternity leave, or any of the other issues associated with employing people.

Thousands are going to be affected. What are they going to do when their jobs disappear?

Universal basic income
Governments will have to introduce a system of universal basic income that not only covers living costs, housing, food etc, but also provides an income sufficient for people to still be able to buy goods, less no one can afford to buy the goods AI industries produce.

Change is coming
Working will become a choice, not a necessity. Attitudes towards those not in work will have to change.

Much of the wealth held by the top 5% will have to be re-distributed equitably across society.

Change is coming because the alternative is a totally dystopian world. One that benefits no one.Â
