Fifteen percent of US workers participating in a recent survey said they believe that artificial intelligence will have a positive effect on their jobs, but 13% said they are concerned that AI will replace them on the job.

The findings were shared in the People at Work 2025 series published by ADP Research. The series is built on the ADP Research Global Workforce Survey of almost 38,000 adults in 34 markets on six continents.

The reactions of US workers are in line with other workers in other countries, where the international average of workers who believe that AI will have a positive effect was 17%. The countries with the largest share of workers who have a positive outlook on AI also had the largest share of workers with concerns about being replaced by AI.

“In short, AI seems to trigger a contradictory set of emotions: excitement at its potential and fear of its ultimate impact,” according to ADP. The reactions of healthcare workers were proof of this finding.

Younger workers were more likely to have a positive view of AI in the workplace, but they also were the most likely to have concerns. Younger workers in North America were more likely than other workers their age worldwide to express uncertainty for the future. In the United States and Canada, about one-fourth of workers aged fewer than 27 years said they had no idea how AI might affect their jobs.

“Workers who are early in their careers might be considering how advancements in AI technology might affect them in the long term,” according to ADP. “Late-career workers, especially those 55 and older, seemed to show the most indifference toward AI. They might feel that AI will have little impact on the years they have remaining in their jobs.”

ADP found differences in sentiment among workers in various job segments.
