The founder of an AI company, who had last week shared on X that he is looking to hire a software engineer in Bengaluru, on Tuesday said that after his post went viral, finding the right candidate has become difficult. Smallest AI founder Sudarshan Kamath said that his inbox has been flooded with emails, and he currently plans to use AI to filter the applications.

“Since the time I put this post, to now, we receive 5-6 resumes every single minute,” Kamath shared on X. “While typically I would be happy when a post goes viral, this time I think the purpose for posting this has been defeated. This inbox has become a spam inbox. I plan to run an LLM on it so I can filter out the good ones.”

LLM (large language model) is a type of artificial intelligence that uses machine learning to process, understand, and generate human language. It can match resumes to job requirements, automating the candidate matching process.

Kamath’s initial post had sparked curiosity on X after he announced a job vacancy for a role that guaranteed a salary of Rs 40 LPA (lakh per annum) and work from the office five days a week and claimed that the candidates’ college and their resumes would not determine their worth. The post received close to 4.5 lakh views.

“We are looking to hire a cracked full-stack engineer at Smallest AI… Send a small 100-word text introducing yourself + links to your best work to info@smallest.ai” he wrote on X, adding that “college – does not matter” and “resume – not needed”.

“Cracked engineers” is a term used to describe highly capable and talented software engineers who are not afraid of change or new ideas. They are also known to take extreme ownership of the products they are building (almost with a quasi-religious fervor) and empower the entire team. “Cracked engineers” are also known to love what they do.

Within hours of sharing the post, Kamath’s hiring call went viral and had gathered close to 3.5 lakh views by Wednesday afternoon.

After the hiring call went viral, Kamath clarified that the intention of the post was not to grab eyeballs because his company has always valued proof of work more than college, grades, and resumes.

“This is how we have always hired. Not sure why this one blew up. Most of our team doesn’t have a tier 1 college background. But they’re some of the smartest folks I have ever met. We also have college dropouts, ex-entrepreneurs in the team. Brilliance can come from anywhere,” he said.
