Generative AI and the future of work global dialogue: perceptions and prospects – CEPS

This post was originally published on this site.

AI is likely to bring profound changes to most aspects of society. The impact of Generative AI (GenAI) is specifically one of the ā€˜big unknownsā€™ in current debates about the future of work worldwide. The effects on employment levels have the potential to be very significant, with recent studies estimating millions of jobs either at risk of full automation or benefiting from complementarities and ā€˜augmentationā€™ of human capabilities. On job quality, the impact of GenAI must be judged by its impact on all job quality dimensions, including (but not limited to) employment and working conditions.

This report frames the issues relevant to understanding GenAIā€™s implications for work, provides the most recent research findings and policy developments in this area, and integrates them with insights drawn from roundtable discussions held in three global regions: Asia, Europe and Latin America. In particular, the analysis compares these regional perspectives in three main domains: a) approaches for grasping the future of work; b) perspectives on and experiences of GenAIā€™s impact on employment and job quality; and c) current policies and future policy priorities. The report was prepared as part of the ā€˜Generative AI and the future of work global dialogue: perceptions and prospectsā€™ organised in the framework of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI).
