The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics makes the argument in its position statement on the use of artificial intelligence in K-12 education that teachers, principals, and district leaders must “stay up to date on current AI trends” to prepare students for the future. Many math educators suggest that AI already has the potential to serve as a sort of teaching assistant, working with kids on developing skills and freeing up teachers to spend time showing students how to tackle more sophisticated math challenges. But as AI tools are integrated into math education, teachers and students will need to develop a healthy amount of skepticism about the limitations of AI tools—they have unique strengths and weaknesses.
