Graduates should not go into accountancy because the profession is being replaced with artificial intelligence, Jeremy Hunt has said.

The former chancellor said he would “steer people away” from the profession “because computers are going to be able to do a huge amount of the work that’s currently done by accountants”.

Hunt, who served as chancellor under Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, said: “There are certain markets where you think if you go into this market, you’re pretty dead.” He suggested careers in medicine or IT would be safer bets for aspiring graduates instead.
