The fastest-growing jobs in the US revealed, according to study | LiveNOW from FOX

A new report has revealed which jobs are growing and declining the fastest.

The study, conducted by interactive AI presentation and infographic maker Visme, analyzed data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on employment figures for occupations from 2020 to 2024. The percentage change in the number of people employed (in thousands) was calculated and the jobs were ranked.

Nurse midwifery is fastest-growing job in US

By the numbers:

The data found that nurse midwifery was the fastest-growing profession in the U.S., with a staggering 260% increase in jobs from 2020 to 2024. This dual registration profession has grown from 5,000 in 2020 to 18,000 in 2024.

The backstory:

According to Cleveland Clinic, a midwife is a healthcare provider who is trained to provide obstetric and gynecological services, including primary care, prenatal and obstetric care, and routine gynecological care like annual exams and contraception.

According to a 2023 article from the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the US has fewer midwives for childbirth care, with only 4 midwives per 1,000 live births. In most other high-income countries, there are between 30 and 70 midwives.

The second fastest-growing job was proofreaders with a 250% increase. With the rise in AI-powered chatbots, it would seem more plausible for proofreaders to become less in-demand, but the data found this was not the case.

While AI is convenient, it makes mistakes, and it can be obvious to readers when it has been used.

What they’re saying:

“It is clear to see from the data that technology, in the forms of automation and AI, has had a big impact on the job sector, with some occupations really suffering and others thriving,” Payman Taei, the founder and CEO of Visme, said of the findings. “The production industry has 20% of the top ten fastest growing jobs and 20% of the top ten fastest decreasing jobs. This suggests that the industry is currently undergoing significant transformation, and that while some jobs are becoming obsolete, other jobs are emerging to replace them.”
