If youâre an artificial intelligence (AI) specialist, youâre likely wondering which tech hubs offer the greatest concentration of AI jobs. After all, a dense cluster of companies on the hunt for AI talent can translate into more opportunities and higher compensation.
CompTIAâs latest Jobs Report offers some insight into that very question, and as you can see, the nationâs largest tech hubs also feature stunningly high percentages of dedicated AI job postings. Take a look at this chart, which is based on CompTIAâs analysis of Lightcast job posting data:
For companies that want to build out a significant AI operation, the cost of specialized talent, cloud-computing credits and other necessary elements can quickly escalate. Thatâs one reason why much of the current wave of AI development is being handled by some of the largest names in tech, which have limitless budgets, and extremely well-monetized startups. The hope is that research and investment will eventually lower the cost of AI infrastructure to the point where even small- to midsize businesses can do innovative things within their own tech stack, but we may be a few years away from that.
Given those costs, perhaps itâs no wonder that the greatest concentrations of AI hiring are taking place among the countryâs most well-established tech centers, filled with companies that can throw millions or even billions of dollars at their AI problems. If youâre an AI specialist, you may want to target your job search at these companies, particularly if you want to participate in cutting-edge development and research.
As we discussed in a recent episode of Diceâs âTech Connectsâ podcast, most businesses at this juncture donât need pricey AI specialists; rather, they need tech professionals and other employees who are really good at either prompt engineering or using the newest AI tools to accomplish their tasks:
Whatever your current tech role, becoming familiar with how AI works (and how to write a great prompt) can open a lot of doors. Even mastering the art of good AI prompt engineering will set you ahead in a crowded job market.
