Google CEO Sundar Pichai has emphasised that artificial intelligence (AI) will drive job creation rather than eliminate opportunities, urging governments and businesses to invest in workforce upskilling. Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Pichai cited a study showing that 60% of jobs created since 1940 did not previously exist, underscoring the evolving nature of work.

He highlighted how new professions, such as YouTube content creators, have emerged with technological advancements and stressed that human interaction and experience will continue to hold value despite automation. He pointed to AI’s impact on industries like sports, where chess remains more popular than ever despite AI dominance.

Pichai commended the UAE’s foresight in AI adoption, noting its investment in digital infrastructure and workforce training. He urged other governments to follow suit, ensuring populations are equipped for AI-driven transformations. “Most people underestimate the infrastructure transition. The UAE has been at the forefront of skilling, which is crucial for workforce readiness,” he said.

He also stressed the need for global AI regulations and responsible innovation, adding that Google is developing tools to detect deepfake content and ensure ethical AI use. Pichai encouraged companies to foster risk-taking cultures, supporting ambitious projects and learning from failures.

As AI reshapes industries, Pichai’s message reinforces the need for businesses and workers to adapt, upskill, and embrace AI’s potential for job creation and economic growth.
