This morning, Business Insider — together with other publications in the News/Media Alliance — filed a lawsuit against Cohere, an AI company that has been taking and using our journalism without permission.
I have long shared that AI is both a fantastic opportunity and a significant threat. We can and do use this technology to innovate the way we work — through our onsite search, subscription paywall, and advertising targeting. But we cannot allow AI companies to infringe on our copyright and use our journalism in their products and services without a mutually-beneficial agreement in place.
This lawsuit is a step in the right direction to ensure a fair playing field for the licensed use of journalism and the sustainability of our industry.
