To the Editor:
In response to Cynthia Saarieâs letter, âCannibis deserves equal treatment at the NYS Fairâ (Aug. 31, 2023), she directly compares use of cannabis with use of alcohol, wine and beer.
Yes, both alcohol and cannabis are intoxicants. However, a person can enjoy an alcoholic beverage responsibly and not get drunk. Thatâs not exactly the same with cannabis, as most people smoke it with the intention of getting high. Not to mention the odor is offensive and difficult to contain, even in a designated area. (Ask some of the 2023 U.S. Open tennis players in Flushing Meadows).
The fact that cannabis is now legal is great for those who use it. But there are limits, and it has no place where young children or those who choose not to use it have to be exposed to it.
If you canât enjoy yourself at the New York State Fair without getting high, maybe the fair isnât for you.
