A medical marijuana plant is closing in western Pennsylvania.
Goodblend Pennsylvania has filed a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. The company has informed the state that 76 people will be laid off as the result of a plant closure at 2920 Beaver Ave. in Pittsburgh.
The plant will close on Sept. 15 and the layoffs are expected to be permanent.
Goodblend Pennsylvania is also closing two medical marijuana dispensaries in the Pittsburgh and Erie areas, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
An official with Parallel, Goodblend’s corporate parent in Atlanta, told the newspaper that it has made the decision to withdraw from the Pennsylvania and is working with regulators to establish and execute a closure plan over the next 60 days.
The WARN Act is federal legislation that offers protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of a covered-business closing and covered-business mass layoff. The WARN notice was dated July 17.
