NJ Cannabis Insider’s Oct. 12 conference in Newark is finally here.

With some 200 insiders expected to gather to network and hear from their peers — including trailblazers such as Wanda James, Suzan Nickelson, Bill Caruso, Rob Mejia, Tara Sargente, Tony Gallo, among others — the all-day business event promises to set the tone for what lies ahead in New Jersey emerging marketplace.

James, who opened a dispensary in Colorado in 2009 and has a foothold in New Jersey, is the business keynote speaker. New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission Chairwoman Dianna Houenou will offer insights into where the state is with applications, along with how the application process works. Other government agencies presenting are the New Jersey Business Action Center and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, which recently awarded 48 cannabis businesses with $250,000 grants.

Going hand-in-hand with state approval is municipal approval. Cannabis attorney Ronald Mondello will host a panel with Plainfield City Mayor Adrian Mapp and Jersey City’s Council President Joyce Watterman.

To supplement what operators have learned on their journey to approval, cannabis attorney Chirali Patel will host the Q&A session, “Ask This Attorney Anything: Licensing, Strategic Planning, SOPs, etc.”

And to answer questions about how to market your business, NJ Advance Media sales executive Josef Onegri will offer the CannaTalk, “Marketing & Media: How To Get Your Brand Out There,” a crash course on SEO and working with media.

More than 40 vendors — nearly half of them leaf-touching businesses — will be exhibiting, with breakout areas, including the Women’s Discovery Area and the Social Equity Discovery Area presented by Holistic Solutions. A special Speed-Networking Session is presented by Tenax Strategies.

Doors open at 9 a.m. with Simply Pure founder Wanda James’ keynote address opening the all-day event at 10 a.m. The conference ends at 5 p.m. Attendees can join an official after party later that night minutes away in Downtown Newark.
