Prospects for a cannabis relief fund in the 2024 New York State budget have suddenly dimmed, and licensed growers are not looking forward to once again being left holding the bag.

Details of the Recompense Fund – intended to bail out New York cannabis farmers who suffered greatly as a result of the botched rollout of retail stores – was spelled out to NY Cannabis Insider last month: the Senate version contained $128 million in grants, loans and tax credits, while the Assembly version called for $80 million in grants and loans.
