Regina Smith is co-owner of Yonkers dispensary The Plant. She answered eight simple questions for NY Cannabis Insider’s “People to know” series.
What is your position and what do you/your company do in the cannabis space?
I am the co-owner of The Plant, Yonkers’ first legal cannabis dispensary. I spend most of my time connecting with the local community to spread word about our brand. I also love spending time at the dispensary learning about our customers and spending time with the budtenders so that they can share their feedback on the day-to-day operations.
How long have you worked in the cannabis space?
I have been involved with the cannabis industry for about 3 years now.
What did you do before you were involved in the cannabis industry?
Before working in cannabis, I worked in fashion and retail as a brand ambassador. I also currently own and operate a dessert shop in Scarsdale called SmallCakes. We have been serving the local community for almost eight years now.
What led you to the cannabis industry?
My husband and business partner, Anthony Bannister, has always been a fan of the plant and he had dreams of selling legal cannabis. As a supportive wife, I was determined to see his vision come into fruition.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to get into the NY weed industry?
It’s not an easy ride, but if you are passionate about it, have patience and continue to work hard to get to where you want to be, and you’ll be able to make it happen.
What do you think the NY cannabis ecosystem will look like in five years?
Hopefully no more smoke shops that sell illicit cannabis and no more 280E, which will make it possible for legal cannabis stores to succeed even more.
Do you use cannabis? If so, what’s your favorite method and why?
I am a fan of the plant. My favorite consumption method is edibles.
What’s the best method for people to contact you?
The best way to get in touch is via email: rsmith@fanoftheplant.com.
