A member of a legendary hip-hop group is coming to Syracuse for a concert, but it won’t start at a typical time.
Masta Killa will perform at the Westcott Theater on April, 20, 2025. And because it’s a “420 Party,” the show will begin early at 4:20 p.m.
Tickets are on sale for $41.98 (yes, almost exactly 42 dollars and 0 cents) at thewestcotttheater.com. Meet and greet packages are also available for $146.15.
“We expect these to go fast, get ‘em early while you can,” the venue’s official Facebook page said.
Masta Killa, also known as Jamel Irief, is a New York rapper best known for his work as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, including on “Da Mystery of Chessboxin” from their 1993 debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).” The collective, whose hits include “Protect Ya Neck,” “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Triumph,” is widely considered to be one of the greatest hip-hop groups of all time.
Masta Killa has also released four solo albums and contributed to many Wu-Tang projects over the past three decades, including group albums, side projects and collaborations with Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, Killah Priest, Cappadonna, U-God and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB).
April 20, or 4/20, is considered an unofficial holiday for cannabis and marijuana, which has been legal in New York for recreational use since 2021. “Weed Day” reportedly began with a group of California teens who would meet outside their high school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke up together in the 1970s. Known as “The Waldos,” they used “420″ as a code to discuss it without teachers or parents knowing, and the term’s popularity spread.
