A portion of one lane of Highway 12/121 will be closed for about four months as Caltrans conducts work on a bridge near Schellville, according to officials.
Starting just after midnight Monday, workers will be replacing the railings on the Yellow Creek Bridge, which is located a few hundred feet south of the Highway 121-116 roundabout in Big Bend. The work is scheduled to end the morning of Feb. 28, according to a Caltrans news release.
During the construction project, a stretch of the two-lane highway will be reduced to one-way traffic control for vehicles travelling north or south.
The railings on the Yellow Creek Bridge, which was built in 1922, are a part of the original structure. Caltrans is replacing them to meet safety standards.
The work is the second phase of a two-bridge improvement plan. The first project, which took place Oct. 1 to 27, was replacing outdated railings on the Arroyo Seco Bridge.
