Since AI exploded a couple of years ago, it makes sense that people have become a little worried about their careers, given how quickly AI has changed the job landscape so far. So when I saw Reddit user Any-Hamster-3189 ask: “Which jobs are 100% safe from AI?” I thought it would be helpful to share their opinions. Here are some of the top answers below:
1. “I’m a hairdresser, and I don’t expect to be replaced by AI anytime soon. That said, it does make our lives a little more frustrating, considering the number of people who bring us AI-generated images of hairstyles that are physically impossible.”

2. “Politicians. They will never give up their jobs to AI.”
“Same for CEO, even though IMO AI would be much better at replacing CEOs than a lot of the other jobs they’re trying to replace them with.”
3. “Farrier. I doubt clankers will ever be changing horseshoes.”

“So farriers have no reason to be stressed about AI? Good on them. Sounds like they can just put their feet up.”

4. “I’ve got 4-6 years left as a kindergarten teacher until I retire. I’m pretty sure my job is safe given that timeframe.”
5. “Undertakers. The only things guaranteed in life are death and taxes. AI can do taxes.”

6. “I’d like to see AI wax coochies and booties as well as I do.”
“I’d rather a human see my cooch rather than AI. That data could be sold for $200 to porn generators.”
7. “Theatre is dying but not dead. There will always be a subset of humans that want to see other humans perform difficult and engaging things live instead of generated avatars on a screen. So stage actors, musicians, athletes, comics, and more are going to stick around.”

8. “Anything where rich folks still want someone human to interact with, generally in customer/service roles where they would rather ‘talk to the manager’ than deal with a robot (they barely even want to deal with lower-level staff). I’m in luxury residential property management, and I feel pretty safe about my career. There’s no replacing a human punching bag for rich people’s problems, and being able to calmly diffuse their issues is a skill AI is unlikely to fill.”

9. “Emergency services.”

“I’m a firefighter. I concede that my job will be one of the last to be replaced by AI, but at some point, it will be safer to deploy drones into fires and have a machine that can lift up grandma when she falls. It’ll be one of the last dominoes to fall, but it’s not outright impossible to replace my style of work.”

10. “Read this somewhere, but ‘sperm donor.'”
11. “Massage therapists. I went to see my massage therapist yesterday and actually had this thought while on the table. I mentioned to her that she didn’t have to worry about AI taking over her job, and she said that while AI wasn’t a large concern when she started, she specifically went into an industry that was hands-on and medically related. She knew she couldn’t be replaced by a computer, and by continuing her education on the side, she could easily slip into a ‘necessary’ field if things went south and her field was no longer needed.”

12. “Software engineers stepping in to fix when computer systems break due to some moron trying to replace engineers with AI.”
13. “Nurses, midwives/doula/OBGYN nurses (or whoever else is with you during labor), preschool teachers. Jobs where it is all about touching someone. I’m fine with the surgery being done by a robot, but I want a nurse to check on me before and after.”

“It’s almost like the jobs that society has deemed to be ‘women’s work’ are the ones most people agree they wouldn’t want to see a robot doing…
But it’s not like their necessity will ever equate to higher pay because keeping people alive and nurturing the next generation is just so, so, so easy.”
14. “Therapy fields. No way can they perform the duties of occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathologist, etc.”
15. “Priests. AI can bless your prompt, but holy water still requires human delivery.”
