The Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business Administration, organized a seminar titled “Accounting in the Real World: Careers in the ERP and AI Era” for students enrolled in the major courses of accounting. The seminar aimed to provide students with practical insights into the changing nature of the accounting profession, the growing role of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the skills and qualifications required to build successful careers in the corporate sector. The seminar featured two distinguished speakers: Mr. Rajshekhar Debnath FCA, Chief Financial Officer of Global Appliances Ltd., and Ms. Fatema Akter, Country HR Head of Godrej Household Products Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Rajshekhar Debnath is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and a Chartered Accountant of ICAEW (England and Wales). He has extensive professional experience in financial reporting, auditing, and corporate finance, having worked in organizations including Airtel, Robi Axiata, and RedDot Digital in various capacities. In his session, he discussed the increasing use of automation in business, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Artificial Intelligence, highlighting their growing impact on business operations and the accounting profession. He also shared his views on the future of accounting jobs and emphasized the importance of professional qualifications and degrees in creating better career opportunities. Mr. Debnath is also a faculty member of ICAB.
Ms. Fatema Akter, an experienced HR professional with nearly nine years of experience, has worked with renowned organizations including Coca-Cola, Robi Axiata, and Marico in various HR capacities. Her session focused on the expectations of the corporate sector from fresh graduates. She provided valuable guidance on effective CV writing and emphasized the importance of developing both technical and soft skills. She also highlighted the significance of professional networking in building a successful career and gaining opportunities in the corporate environment.
The seminar was graced by the distinguished presence of Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain, Advisor and Dean-in-Charge of the Faculty of Business Administration, who delivered the welcome speech. Dr. Mohammad Faridul Alam, Professor and Director of the Graduate Program, was also present at the seminar and delivered the closing remarks. This seminar’s goal is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals f Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) and Ensuring Quality Education (SDG 4).
The seminar was arranged by Mr. Niaz Mohammad ACMA, Associate Professor; Department of Accounting. Dr. Sazzadur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Accounting; Ms. Sazia Afrin, Assistant Professor, Ms. Saeeda Tajrian, Lecturer, and Mr. Siam Mohammad, Lecturer, Department of Accounting, was also present in the seminar.
Overall, the seminar provided an enriching platform for accounting students to gain practical knowledge from experienced corporate professionals. The insights shared by the speakers encouraged students to develop relevant technical, professional, and interpersonal competencies and to prepare themselves for the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly technology-driven accounting profession.
