Adoption of artificial intelligence is threatening to inflict mass redundancies unless workers are retrained and given job security, a major union has warned the NSW government, in a bid to bake in worker protections at the state level.
As the federal and state Labor governments openly discuss the need for sharing the gains of AI with their own workers, Public Service Association Assistant Secretary Troy Wright said more protections were needed to prevent bureaucracies from creating “massive short-term savings and long-term failures”.
