The largest share of affected workers is tied to Meta’s Bellevue office at 1550 121st Ave. NE, where approximately 699 employees are expected to lose their jobs.
BELLEVUE, Wash. — Meta plans to lay off approximately 1,395 employees in Washington state this summer, according to a notice filed with the state Employment Security Department.
The company notified affected workers on May 20 and expects the separations to take effect July 22. The layoffs are expected to be permanent, according to the filing.
The largest share of affected workers is tied to Meta’s Bellevue office at 1550 121st Ave. NE, where approximately 699 employees are expected to lose their jobs.
The filing also lists approximately 215 affected employees at the company’s Dexter Avenue office in Seattle, 44 employees at its Utah Avenue South location in Seattle and 206 employees at its Redmond office on Willows Road. Another 231 remote employees living in Washington are also included in the reduction.
Meta said employees will continue receiving pay and benefits through their separation date. The company said affected workers are not represented by a union.
“The changes we are implementing vary by team and include layoffs, open role closures, and moving thousands of employees to business critical priorities across the company,” Tracy Clayton, Meta spokesperson, wrote in a statement to KING 5.
The filing follows reports that Meta is cutting roughly 8,000 employees, or about 10% of its workforce, as it increases spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure and recruiting AI talent.
According to reporting by the Associated Press, Meta said the cuts are intended to improve efficiency and free resources for new investments across the business.
