A new study ranks Arkansas among the states with the lowest concentration of jobs most exposed to potential AI disruption.
SmartAsset ranks Arkansas 47th among the 50 states and Washington, D.C., with 2.2 percent of the workforce employed in jobs considered highly exposed to AI disruption.
The study estimates about 29,070 Arkansas workers are in one of 26 occupations considered at highest risk.
Those jobs include mathematicians, proofreaders, court reporters and web developers.
“While recent research has tempered the most dire predictions of job loss, some occupations nonetheless face high levels of exposure to declining hiring demand, wage pressure, task automation and other forms of disruption. States with larger concentrations of highly exposed occupations could experience more pronounced labor-market changes, particularly in roles where core tasks are more vulnerable to AI-driven restructuring,” explained Toby Nelson with SmartAsset.
SmartAsset says the study used the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data and June 2026 research from the Virginia Economic Information and Analytics Division.
The study measures potential disruption from factors including declining hiring demand, wage pressure and task automation.
Mississippi had the lowest concentration at 1.9 percent, while Washington ranked highest at 5.7 percent.
