Gen Z women are entering the workforce as artificial intelligence (AI) is changing what entry-level work looks like, especially in tech, marketing and other office jobs.

In a Reddit thread about future-proofing careers, women suggested paths that require hands-on care, real-world problem-solving, strategy and relationship-building. The jobs may use AI, but they are not built around work a chatbot can do alone.

Here are Reddit’s best suggestions for AI-proof jobs for Gen-Z women.

Hands-On Healthcare

Healthcare came up repeatedly in Reddit discussions, from nursing to other patient-facing roles.

For Gen-Z women seeking a route outside medical school, allied health pairs technical training with direct patient care.

AI industry researcher Mücahit Kaya recommended licensed roles below the physician level, including nurse practitioners, physical and occupational therapy assistants, diagnostic medical sonographers and radiologic technologists. Many require less training than a four-year degree and offer strong demand.

Diagnostic medical sonographers typically need an associate degree or postsecondary certificate. They earned a median $89,340 and are projected to grow 13% through 2034, according to the latest data available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Skilled Trades and Infrastructure

Electrician might not be the first career Gen-Z women picture when they think about a stable future.

However, Reddit commenters and career experts recommended electricians and other hands-on, field-based work as more AI-resistant options.

“These jobs require people to work in physical environments, diagnose problems and make decisions based on what is actually happening in front of them,” said Allison Danielson, CEO of Tallo, a career platform.

Electricians typically enter with a high school diploma and apprenticeship. The job paid $62,350 and the BLS projects 9% growth through 2034, with about 81,000 openings each year.

Product Management

Product management shifts the work toward strategy, business decisions and guiding a product from idea to launch.

“Young people also often don’t realize how many different roles exist within an industry,” Danielson said. “Understanding the range of jobs inside an industry can open up options they may not have considered.”

For women already interested in design or tech, product management can offer a way to move closer to those decisions. In the Reddit thread, a product designer identified it as a possible next step.

Designing AI Products

Another option is to build the technology instead of waiting for AI to reshape an existing job.

In the same Reddit thread, a product designer considered moving to “a team or company that’s specifically building applied AI products and design those products instead.”

AI-product design can also be a path for women who enjoy technology but want to pair it with user experience, decision-making and strategy.

“Humans also have the ability to make decisions and be emotionally intelligent,” said Jacqueline Twillie, founder of BNEDai, an AI automation platform. “Creativity and critical thinking activities can sharpen the human skillset to be direct and utilize AI tools.”

Education

Reddit commenters included teaching among the careers they saw as more durable in an AI-shaped job market.

School psychology and special education offer a more specialized route. Both require professionals to assess a child’s needs, adapt in the moment and work with families.

“The roles I hire for are essentially unautomatable,” said L’Taundra Everhart, executive director of diverse learners and whole child supports for a Central Ohio school district. “They depend on reading a child, building trust with a family and exercising judgment. Right now, it’s hard for an algorithm to replicate that.”

Law

Law also surfaced in Reddit discussions, where one commenter suggested tech law because AI could generate more intellectual-property cases.

It’s not a quick entry path. Lawyers typically need a professional degree and the BLS projects 4% growth through 2034.

“For Gen-Z women, the opportunity is to become highly skilled both in their profession and in the technology transforming it,” said Alex Tieu, CEO of JLG Lawyers.

“The goal should not be to compete with AI at the tasks AI performs well, but to develop the expertise and judgment necessary to supervise it, leverage it and make decisions that technology cannot make on its own,” she explained.
